*** UPDATE ***** Paul Chryst will be introduced as the Head Coach at a Press Conference at 3pm ET and can be viewed here: http://www.pittsburghpanthers.com/sports/m-footbl/spec-rel/122211aaa.html
There's been much speculation about the future of Paul Chryst as Wisconsin's offensive coordinator. No, not in the negative sense usually associated with a statement like that, but because he's been the subject of coaching searches all offseason so far. Well, according to this VERY recent update on the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette's website Paul Chryst is the man to lead the Pitt program forward.
Now, we stress that financial terms haven't been reached between the two sides, but I consider that just a formality. Why? Because Chryst has pulled out of consideration for coaching jobs in the past because he wanted to stay at Wisconsin and has stated he wouldn't go that far in the process if he wasn't going to take the job. He's just not wired that way and is careful in considering uprooting his family.
Backing up an earlier report on twitter via @SPORTSbyBROOKS where he stated that his sources said an official introduction was coming on Friday, this report says it's coming later this week and you have to believe that would be Friday.
The remaining questions are does Chryst stays on with Wisconsin through the Rose Bowl? How does this impact the decision of one Dayne Crist?
I think that is highly likely Chryst will coach the Rose Bowl considering we're only a week and half out of the game. If not, look for either Bob Bostad or Thomas Hammock to take that role in the bowl game before a wider search for an OC emerges. As for the Dayne Crist situation, I have to consider it a blow for the Badgers chances because Chryst is such an attraction for QB's. Add to that the awesome relationship that he has with new KU Head Coach Charlie Wiess and you have to really think Wisconsin is a distant second in that race.
