Per release Wisconsin Men's Soccer Head Coach John Trask has been named an assistant on the United States U-23 Men's National Team as they look toward qualifying for the 2012 Olympic Games. Trask was asked to be an assistant by Head Coach Caleb Porter (also Toledo Head Coach) and accepted the honor.
The United States also announced their roster for the upcoming December training camp, where Coach Trask will join the team in helping to select the final roster for the Olympic Qualifying tournament which takes place March 22-26th.
America is drawn into group A and will face Canada, Cuba, and El Salvador in matches to all be played at LG Field in Nashville, TN. The United States takes on Cuba first on March 22nd (8pm CT), then faces Canada on March 24th (6pm CT) and rounds up group play against it's toughest opponent in El Salvador on March 26th (8pm CT).
The top of Group A will play the 2nd place from Group B and vice versa on March 31st at 5pm/8pm CT from LIVESTRONG Sporting Park in Kansas City (home of Sporting KC in MLS) with the two winners advancing to the final on April 2nd at 7pm CT. Both finalists will advance to the Olympic games, but the winner will have an advantage in seeding for the tournament.
Congratulations to Coach Trask on this honor and we'll be keeping Badgers fans updated throughout the process as our resident soccer guy, your's truly, tends to keep up on these things on his own. Again, congrats on this honor and ON WISCONSIN!!
