Welcome back to the Introduction to your Badger Basketball Freshman Class. We are going to stay in Illinois today as we profile Frank Kaminsky. He's probably one of the 2 most well know recruits in the class and for good reason as you'll see. Let's take a look at how his Senior Year went and what we can look forward to in the coming years.
Hometown/School: Lisle, IL/Benet Academy
2011 Stats:14.2ppg, 8.7rpg, 2.8apg, and 4.2bpg
- 2011 1st team All-State(Chicago Sun-Times), 2nd team All-State(AP)
- Naperville Sun Co-Player of the Year
Breakdown:Frank is easily the most likely candidate to see the floor as a starter in 2011 if you ask me. He's what most call a "Wisconsin Player", meaning he's got a good basketball IQ and is great in the classroom(Benet is one of the best in IL). On the court he's got an amazing array of skills that include the ability to shoot from the outside with accuracy and use the dribble effectively. I really like that he was able to go from 225lbs. in his Junior year to 235lbs. this past season, showing he can add weight quickly and use it to his advantage as well. Of course he'll need to put additional weight on in the spring/summer season to be able to handle the rigors of the Big Ten season from the beginning. If you check out the video on YouTube titled "2011 Highlights" you'll see highlights from his Junior year and compared to the video here you'll see a noticeable difference in the kids body size. As for what the future may hold I'd say he's a mix of Jon Leuer and Keaton Nankivil. He's got the ability to shoot from the outside that both possessed as well as the vision they had. What makes him a bit different is that he is much more comfortable with the dribble at this stage, something that Leuer developed over time, and he's more of shot blocking presence inside. I honestly think this kid has the makings of one of the all-time great Badgers when everything is said and done. To me he's the most ready to step into the system has a starter and will need to be good from the start with all the graduation's up front. I can't wait to see him in a Badger uniform and as always... ON WISCONSIN!!
